SCP-017 is to be kept in a specialized chamber inside the Moderate Containment Zone at Paragon Research Institute. The containment must contain 4 functional floodlights that must be maintained and turned on at all times.
⚠ In the situation where SCP-017 is hostile, use of light may be used. These light sources include sunlight, flashlights, flamethrowers, car lights, SCP-1200, and SCP-457.
SCP-017, also known as "Absence," is a subject that prefers darkness. The subject has been noted to have two phases:
Dormant Phase
SCP-017 has a short stature with no humanoid features;
SCP-017 consists of a floating dark gas-like state which is labeled as "Void Fluid";
The subject cannot speak, having low intelligence, and only concerned with avoiding light;
Active Phase
SCP-017 has a taller height with basic humanoid features -- white, hollow eyes and the reminiscent shape of a human body; and
SCP-017 can speak and conduct basic abilities; however, he has the intelligence of a shy, juvenile child.
SCP-017 can be found to be bored at times and finds interest in small children's toys.
SCP-017 can be found easy to manipulate; however, unmet promises can come with consequences.
The subject highly prefers to remain in darkness or shadows of any object, straying away from any light sources. When SCP-017 is considered hostile, the subject will have red eyes and unable to be negotiated with.

SCP-017 is a child of the void, arriving on Earth to Site 40 on May 04, 198█. The subject does not like to talk about how it got to Earth; however, SCP-017 mentions something took it.
The subject recalls its place being a dark place, and may have had family in this place. Other things in this dark place that SCP-017 mentioned was a big thing that was sleepy and ate glowing things.
Before SCP-017 arrived to Paragon Research Institute, the subject had a close relationship with SCP-1730, similar to a mentor or a guardian.
⚠ SCP-017 and SCP-1730 should be closely monitored; SCP-1730 may have allegedly triggered the incident that allowed SCP-017 to enter Earth.
SCP-017 absorbs people to gain "darkness," resulting in transforming into its active state. In order to revert its state, SCP-017 must be exposed to light for a period of time. SCP-017 has several abilities that it can use;
Consume
SCP-017 can consume a victim in its dormant state to transform into its active state.
Shadow Lacerations
SCP-017 can harm others with multiple lacerations, scratches, and scarring of tissue.
Vanish
SCP-017 can vanish for a period of time, allowing it to escape from encounters, high concentrations of light, or to get around undetected.
Fog of War
SCP-017 can send out an anomalous smoke screen that removes an individual's visibility and leaves one in a sense of paranoia. The subject uses this ability to escape attacks or set up ambushes.
Child's Scream V1
SCP-017 emits an anomalous force that knocks back an individual, leaving them incapacitated for roughly 15 seconds. The radius of this ability is arguably 300 studs long.
Child's Scream V2
SCP-017 emits a high-pitched scream, able to break glass and disrupt electrical equipment such as lights.
Addendum 017-01: Site-73 intercepted news from SCP-179 that a meteor would strike Site-45 at 15:00 hours. Incident report: B-1730 held that SCP-1730 sabotage site SAM systems, allowing the crash of the meteor. SCP-017, through anomalous means, used the meteor to travel to Earth, resulting in an hour-long breach of the newly discovered anomaly.
Addendum 017-02: SCP-017 is considered a child of the void; however, no recordings or individuals have ever managed to enter the void. Most about the void is theorized and whether it is actually in our reality is currently unknown. The void is responsible for the creation of two anomalies: SCP-017 and SCP-1730. The process of how these SCPs were created are unknown.
