Discovery System

The discovery system permits any researcher to contribute directly to the Scientific Database. A discovery is any finding not already documented in the department's records, or that directly contradicts something that is.

Discoveries can be made through tests or interviews, or observed first-hand with visual evidence.

Valid Submissions

• A behavior or property of an SCP not listed in its anomaly record

• A new chemical interaction or component not in the chemical records

• A piece of lore about an anomaly or Foundation character not currently recorded

• A behavior that contradicts existing information -- for example, an SCP responding differently than its record states

Invalid Submissions

• Something already documented in the anomaly or chemical records

• A game bug or unintended mechanic

• A vague observation lacking depth -- "it seemed different" is not enough

• An observation outside of testing with no visual evidence.

• Something you heard from another member but did not observe yourself

Discoveries are submitted separately from test/interview submissions. If you notice something that might've been a discovery from either a test, interview, or outside your duties, submit a discovery in #discovery-submissions.

• Please make sure that you write enough detail for Command to properly review your discovery.

Upon submission of your discovery, Scientific Command is responsible for determining how to escalate the discovery, or deny it if the submission is invalid.

Clear Discoveries

When a discovery is self-evident and obvious, it may be approved without further research and immediately written into the Scientific Database.

The new information must be specific, repeatable, and leave no doubt, detailing what was observed, how or why it happened, and why it is new or contradicts current information.

Clear discoveries give 25 research points.

Thin Discoveries

Thin discoveries refer to submissions with new findings that:

• Was only observed once

• Appears inconsistent with current information or isn't fully explained (how, why)

• The behavior occurred only once and outside of a testing environment

• Is not self-evident and obvious

These discoveries are not invalidated but must be scientifically verified. Scientific Command will use these discoveries as basis for department assignments.
