SCP-268 // "Inconspicuous Cap"
SCP-714 is to be kept in a Standard Anomalous Object Handling box inside of the Item Containment at Paragon Research Institute. Routine Checkups will occur by combative personnel to ensure SCP-714 is properly seated inside of the handling box.
SCP-268 resembles a vintage tweed-wool newsboy cap, similar to those worn by newspaper vendors in the early 20th century. Its anomalous properties remain entirely dormant until the cap is actually placed onto an individual's head.
When worn, SCP-268 renders the subject functionally invisible, though not by bending light or turning the user translucent. Instead, it acts as an extreme cognitive filter, forcing human minds and surveillance cameras to perceive the wearer as an uninteresting background detail. Performing loud or physical actions like speaking or grabbing items can briefly draw attention, but observers will rapidly lose interest and forget the wearer unless kept actively engaged.
The cap works continuously as long as it is worn, without a duration limit or recharge time. However, prolonged use carries a permanent side effect: the passive "unnoticeable" quality begins to bleed into the wearer permanently, making them easily ignored by others even when the hat is off.
